Architectural Production Software

  1. Install the APS software.

  2. Configure the AutoCAD paths.

  3. Load the APS menu files.

  4. Exit AutoCAD, reopen it, and configure the APS software.

1. Install the APS software.

Unzip the APS download and place the \APS folder where you would like the software to reside. Due to some AutoCAD quirks I would recommend somewhere OTHER than in program files.

2. Configure the AutoCAD paths.

Open AutoCAD

Click on the "A" at the top left corner of AutoCAD.

Click on "Options"

Click on the "Files" tab

Click on the "+" sign next to "Support File Search Path"

Click on "Add"

Then "Browse"

Browse to the folder you installed the software and go to the "Custom" folder below the main APS folder and press "OK"

Press "Add" again.

Then "Browse" again.

This time, select the main folder where you installed the APS software and press "OK".

When finished you should have two new paths similar to those shown above (the order is important so make sure to have the line with the "Custom" folder before the one with the main APS folder.)

When this is the case press "OK" to close out the Options dialog.

You should have just successfully added the paths to the APS software in your AutoCAD configuration.

3. Load the APS menu file.

Type "MENULOAD" at the command prompt and the following dialog will appear:

Click the "Browse" button.

Select the appropriate menu file from the "Custom" folder under the main APS folder and press "Open". For AutoCAD 2010 this will be the "APS for Acad-2010.cuix" menu file, for ACAD 2009 "APS for Acad-2009.cui", for ACAD 2004 "APS for Acad-2004.mnu", and so on... Each of the individual software's menu files will be listed so that you may load them at your discretion but the only file required is the menu for your year of AutoCAD.

Once the menu file is selected press the "Load" button and the menu file will be loaded. "Browse" as needed to "Load" any other menus from other APS software packages at this time as desired then press the "Close" button.

4. Exit AutoCAD, reopen it, and configure the APS software.

Even though you can see the toolbar buttons and other portions of the new APS commands some of the APS software is not fully loaded. Please get completely out of AutoCAD and then open it up once again.

Once back in AutoCAD type in "APS-CONFIG" which will open the APS configuration utility.

You will see the above dialog. This is normal, press "OK" (it just means you don't have a configuration file yet).

We will create your default configuration file now so press "Default file".

While you could spend time setting up all the APS software we recommend you just create a default file now and come back later to configure things further.  Press "Save and Exit" to save a configuration file. Please note at the top-left of the dialog the location and filename of the file being created.

Now that you have a configuration file set up the commands should be fully loaded and ready for you to use.
